USA Today, Vox, and AARP. Day 3.
We kicked off Wednesday by heading out to USA Today and meeting with a group of staff photographers and editors. Jack Gruber talked to us about the importance of being able to do everything. He was really excited that we’re all fluent in Premiere, because knowledge in video is what employers are looking for. This is great news for me, as an emerging videographer!
After that we went to Vox, a really cool new media company that focuses on tech and online platforms. Kainaz Ameria, the visuals editor, showed us around the office. They were a lot smaller than I thought they would be, especially seeing how much content they produce. They’re still new, only 3.5 years old, but they’re already making waves in the news industry.
To wrap the day up we hustled over to Chinatown to visit Michael Wichita at AARP. After browsing through their many different publications, we sat down with him and photo editor Katrina Zook and discussed the opportunities that AARP offers. I was surprised to learn that the stories that they’re looking for range beyond healthcare and alzheimer's. They’re interested in quirky travel stories and yummy recipes that will promote healthy living.
